Relive the history of kings and queens of Estremoz.
Installed in the special and privileged castle of the city of Estremoz in Alentejo, the Pousada Castelo de Estremoz - Historic Hotel results from the adaptation of the magnificent palace that King D. Dinis had built for his wife.
The construction of the castle began in 1258, and with it began the history of a place full of outstanding episodes. It was from here that D. Afonso IV set off for the glorious Salado Battle that ended Arabian power in the Peninsula. It was also here that D. Manuel gave Vasco da Gama the command of the squad that he would lead to India.
It was already in the 60's of the 20th century that the building was subjected to complete restoration to allow its adaptation to a hotel. The beauty of its layout, the quality of the materials and the use of valuable antiquities created a refined and classical environment worthy of its origins.
From the small gardens and swimming pool, always encircled by the old wall battlements, you can appreciate a superb view over the city and the austere Alentejo plains. In the restaurant, you will certainty appreciate the best of the gastronomy and of the delicious regional pastries.
During your stay, we suggest you leave the comfort of the walls and stroll in the colorful streets of Estremoz, venture out on the Alentejo plains to discover the historical cities of Arraiolos, Vila Viçosa and Évora.
